2.2.5 Group Cohesion

GROUP COHESION

👉🏻 It is a dynamic process, which reflects the tendency of a group of people to remain united in the pursuit of their goals and objectives.

👉🏻It is essential not only in team sports, but also in individual sports. On many occasions you compete against others, but you train together.

We will review TWO TYPES OF GROUP COHESION:

Social Cohesion (the most common):

🤼‍♂️ It seeks to improve the bond and relationship between people 👨‍👨‍👦‍👦

🤼‍♂️ Generate a good atmosphere 🙂👍

🤼‍♂️You usually work on activities and dynamics more outside the field of play (although it can also be done inside). The goal is to get to know each other and make connections.

Cohesion to the task:

🤼‍♂️  A greater implication for sports performance is sought 🏆

🤼‍♂️  Help you compete better 🏆

🤼‍♂️  You can work on applied activities on the field or outside, but always with concepts related to the game 🏆

Both are necessary and complementary. Knowing which one to influence the most will depend on the motivation and objectives of the team/group.

Although it is a variable that above all has to be worked on from the coaching staff, it is important as a player that you know both types of cohesion and how you can contribute to improving this variable in your team. Clubs and coaches highly value players that can contribute to this variable. In fact, those players who help gel the team together, care about their teammates, regardless of their playing time or if they are starters or not, are exemplary. Fundamental players because of their leadership, commitment, attitudes, and respect towards the team.
